About Us

Superstar is began life as a new concept store in Middlesbrough, which we opened in March 2007. It quickly gained a reputation as being a cool alternative to the larger stores that have a strangle hold on cutting edge clothing locally. Specialising in street wear, Superstar was opened by two long time friends Dean Walker & Peter May. The website was launched in September 2007 and Superstar are now in the process of moving the retail shop to sunny Redcar.

Dean has had a 13-year career in retail, starting as a sales assistant for Triads back in 1994 and quickly moving up to Assistant Manager then to Assistant Buyer. In 2000 Dean was head hunted by award winning independent department store Psyche to assist in the buying of the men’s collections. Steve Cochrane, Psyche’s MD rapidly realised Deans potential of discovering cutting edge clothing that he was promoted to Head of Buying covering all departments including Men’s, Women’s & Kids. The role took him to some of the worlds coolest cities including Milan, Paris, Berlin & New York.

Inspired by stores such as A Bathing Ape, Collete, Solebox, Hideout, Hip and Reed Space, Union, Stussy & Adidas in New York Dean realised that his desire was to open a store that embraced not only street wear but the whole culture that goes with it. After a drink with Peter who has a background as a DJ/Producer & Bar owner a partnership was formed and Superstar was born.
 
Superstar proves that its not all about big corporate brands its about searching out small talented labels which customer can embrace… The street is always cooler than the catwalk.
